Abstract:
Detailed account of Bendix's experiences in several prisons and concentration camps, including Spandau, Brandenburg, Polizeigefaengnis Alexanderplatz, Lichtenburg, and Dachau. The first entry is dated form August 23, 1937, written at the Beth Olim of Hitachduth, Palestine. Three months before, Ludwig Bendix was released from the Dachau concentration camp under the condition that he would leave Germany a month later. The memoir has the form of an eyewitness report. It was written in 1937-1938, and is divided in 5 main parts, or "books" as they are called in the manuscript. The first section covers the first internment period in 1933, the second section is about the time between the internments. The last three sections cover the Alexanderplatz police custody camp, the Lichtenburg concentration camp, and Dachau concentration camp. There is also a first draft of the manuscript (typed, 16 p.).
