    Abstract: This film concerns the relationship between Arabs and Jews in the Holy Land, as experienced by one middle-class Arab Christian family in Nazareth from the Arab-Israeli war of 1948 through the present. It is life played as a deadpan farce, one in which all parties repeat the same gestures to the point of meaninglessness. Suleiman looks through the conflict to human reality, and finds in the story of his own family's disintegration the universal pathos and tragedy of the parent-child relationship. And the tragedy that the gorgeous days and clear nights will be the same in this beautiful country no matter who lives and who dies, or whichever tribe is in control

    Abstract: Anlässlich des 90. Geburtstages in diesem Jahr sendet Das Erste ein Filmporträt von Lord George Weidenfeld: In einem sehr persönlichen Film porträtiert der Journalist Mathias Döpfner seinen langjährigen Freund, der 1919 in Wien geboren wurde. Weidenfeld, der 1938 vor den Nazis nach London fliehen konnte, war als Diplomat an der Gründung des Staates Israel beteiligt. Der einflussreiche Befürworter der deutschen Wiedervereinigung bewegt sich noch heute wie selbstverständlich zwischen den Welten der Politik, der Kultur, der Wirtschaft und der Stars. Über ein Jahr hat Mathias Döpfner Lord Weidenfeld bei dessen Reisen und Gesprächen begleitet, beobachtet und befragt. Neben vielen anderen Weggefährten kommen in dem Film Persönlichkeiten wie Daniel Barenboim, Helmut Kohl, Gerhard Schröder, Angela Merkel oder Shimon Peres zu Wort. Gedreht wurde in Berlin, Wien, Salzburg, London, Tel Aviv und New York. Dabei entstand, wie Mathias Döpfner es nennt "eine sehr subjektive Annäherung an einen großen Europäer".
