Abstract: Nazi persecution forced many Jews, not originally Zionists, to try to immigrate to Palestine in spite of British restrictions. Tells the story of the illegal transports from Central Europe organized by the Jewish Agency; the ships that were seized by the British, who deported the refugees to Cyprus or Mauritius; the ships that sank; and the Kladovo transport that was delayed until it fell prey to the Nazis after their invasion of Yugoslavia.
