Abstract:
The ballad "The Bridge of Arta," about a girl who was buried alive as a sacrifice for a bridge, was previously considered to exist only in the folk literature of the Balkan Peninsula. The author publishes a Kurdish Jewish version of the ballad in Neo-Aramaic, with an English translation. She states that the Kurdish version appears to bear a great resemblance to the biblical theme of Jephtah's daughter, as well as international themes and elements from the Muslim Kurdish environment.
