Abstract:
States that there are between 100-120 Pamyat-type organizations and groups in the USSR. The number of members is not known. The claim made by some Pamyat leaders that they have an underground structure of ties with all the independent organizations in the Soviet Union should be taken seriously. Mentions some of these groups and shows how their platforms, including antisemitism, are similar to that of Pamyat. Leaders and members of the Union of Soviet Writers also spout Pamyat-style propaganda, as do some journals (e.g. "Molodaya Gvardiya", "Nash Sovremennik", "Moskva"). An important element in Pamyat's propaganda is the belief in a "Jewish-Masonic conspiracy." Discusses, also, the allegations of an "international Zionist financial oligarchy" which has ruined the Soviet economy, and the contention that Jews were responsible for the October Revolution and all its subsequent ills. Although Pamyat-affiliated parties failed in the state and municipal elections in 1990, warns that they will not give up their program and goals.
