Abstract:
States that compared with French, British, or American media, the Italian media presents a distorted image of Israel to the Italian public; excessive attention is focused on Israel, and the Arab-Israeli conflict is exaggerated. Israel is presented in the media as a formidable military power prone to aggressive and destructive actions, while the Arab threat and PLO terrorism is ignored or minimized. Argues that the Italian media are guilty of a double standard concerning Israel, developing the perception of a brutal Israeli - that is, of the Jew changed from victim into hangman - an image which alleviates consciences bearing guilt for the Holocaust.
