Abstract:
Discusses the fate of Jews who, beginning in 1933 but mostly from 1938, sought refuge in Yugoslavia. Focuses on the Drava and Sava districts, as these parts of northern Yugoslavia saw a large influx of immigrants from Austria, Hungary, and Italy. Based on archival sources, including of the Yugoslav police which published all-points bulletins to apprehend illegal immigrants, relates cases of individuals who either escaped or were caught and sent to concentration camps. The second part of this article gives a chronological summary of the deportations to death camps of these immigrant Jews - where, when, and how the individuals perished. States that heretofore there has been very little data on the fate of foreign Jews in Yugoslavia.
