Abstract:
Emphasizes the sympathetic attitude of Rodrigo Jiménez de Rada, Archbishop of Toledo (1208-1247), towards the Jews. Contrasts this attitude with the hostile and antisemitic position of Pope Innocent III. Disagrees with the historian Yitzchak Fritz Baer who argued that Jews suffered more discrimination than Muslims at this time (e.g. in the requirements to wear distinctive clothes, and to pay an additional tithe to the Church). Denies the supposedly anti-Jewish content of the "Dialogus libri vitae" attributed to the Archbishop.
