Abstract:
Describes the tragedy of the Conversos' condition in medieval Castile, on the basis of Inquisitorial documents from Soria and Cuenca. Distinguishes between sincere Conversos and Judaizing Conversos, stating that the latter were not "heretics" because they never really abandoned Judaism. Outlines the impossible condition of the Converso: every movement or word betrayed his Jewish descent, he did not receive a solid Christian education, and nevertheless he had to be a good Christian lest he fall into the hands of the Inquisition.
