Abstract:
The early period of the ethnic history of both Blacks and Jews in the USA was marked by an affinity of political interests, and even cultural patterns. The growth of anti-White racism and antisemitism amongst some African Americans in the 20th century can be ascribed to their unresolved inferiority complex, engendered by the White American tradition of disparaging the Blacks and their culture. Many other factors contributed to the growth of Black antisemitism since the 1960s, among them the social success of the Jews, the Arab-Israeli conflict, the highly visible movement of Jews from the liberal to the conservative camp in the 1970s-80s, and an increase of anti-Black racism on the part of the Jews. The most conspicuous organization supporting anti-White racism and antisemitism among African Americans is the Nation of Islam, led by Louis Farrakhan. During the "Million Man March" on Washington in 1995, antisemitic rhetoric had a prominent place in the speeches of the participants.
