Abstract:
Describes types of unarmed resistance employed by Jewish community leaders against the official policies of the Antonescu regime concerning social exclusion and the physical extermination of the Jewish population in Romania. They released official statements and made contacts with representatives of Romanian political and cultural democratic groups. Key political figures agreed to exert pressure on Antonescu to abandon these policies for the sake of Romania's best interest. These efforts contributed to the survival of part of the Jewish population in what had been the old kingdom of Romania and in southern Transylvania.
