Abstract:
The first part of the article describes the Jewish community in France before the Second World War, and discusses the nature of antisemitism in France during this period. The influx of Eastern European Jewish immigrants provoked antisemitism. The "Ostjuden" also met with hostility from well-established French Jews. The second part of the article deals with the Holocaust in France and reactions of the Jews to the Warsaw ghetto uprising.
