Abstract:
A paper delivered at a conference held in Kraków, September 1986. Describes the situation of the Jews in Wast Prussia, the territory under Polish rule from 1466 up to the partition of Poland. Deals with the situation of the Jewish traders, mainly in large towns like Gdańsk and Toruń. States that all anti-Jewish restrictions and hostilities had an economic background, even if they were sometimes expressed in a fanatically religious way.
