Abstract:
Relates to the opinions of Jan Rogier on the extreme antisemitism of Cardinal Hlond, which appeared in the Dutch paper "Vrij Nederland", 20.7.1966 and was quoted in the book "Izrael" (Warsaw, 1969) by T. Walichnowski. Rogier analyzed the Cardinal's homily of 1936, in which he supported the idea of economic boycott of the Jews and driving them from Poland. Muszyński examines the text of the homily and concludes that Hlond's utterances were distorted. Contends that Hlond opposed racial antisemitism, never called for expulsion of the Jews, and only accepted the idea of boycott for economic reasons. Deals, as well, with Hlond's reactions to the Kielce pogrom, never published because of political reasons, and states that it is another proof of Hlond's opposition to all forms of hatred.
