Abstract:
Describes the difficult economic situation in Switzerland in 1938 which caused fear of an influx of immigrants from Austria and Germany after the Anschluss. Presents reactions in the Swiss press to the "Polenaktion" (expulsion of Polish Jews from Germany to Poland in 1938). Quotes from newspapers of various political orientations, most of which condemned Germany only after the "Kristallnacht" pogrom. The condemnations provoked reactions in the German press, which attacked Switzerland for the "abuse of neutrality". After the "Polenaktion", Switzerland made it more difficult for Polish citizens to get Swiss visas.
