Abstract:
The article discusses Janusz Korczak’s two short stories: Mośki, Joski i Srule (1910) and Józki, Jaśki and Franki (1911). Drawing on the poetics of reportage and the tradition of moralistic literature, these texts draw the reader’s attention to the sensitivity of teenage boys. As usual, Korczak’s purpose is to show the richness of child’s world, notably its mental growth and identity problems. The stories touch on the issues of Polish-Jewish re lations, language relations (Yiddish and Polish), and economic as well as class conditions (children from rich and poor homes). The subject matters of this kind have an obvious didactic aim – to prepare children for full participation in their future lives.
