Abstract:
Analyzes Polish-Jewish relations in the Kielce region in the second half of the 19th century, including anti-Jewish prejudices and hostilities. The "Gazeta Kielecka", founded in Kielce in 1870, is one of the sources for research on these problems. Focuses on echoes of the Dreyfus Affair in the "Gazeta Kielecka", which reprinted articles translated from the French anti-Dreyfusard press without any commentary. Concludes that the "Gazeta Kielecka" at the end of the 19th century became a newspaper of national-Catholic orientation, but there is no proof that French antisemitism was used as a tool to initiate antisemitic actions in Poland, due to the totally different political conditions in both countries.
Note:
On echoes of the Dreyfus Affair in the Polish provincial press (for example, the "Gazeta Kielecka").
