Abstract:
States that although the Jews settled in these regions in the 15th century, the first archival testimonies come from the 16th century, when the first conflicts occurred. Describes the host desecration accusation in Sochaczew, where the papal nuncio was involved. Economic rivalry in the town, and differences in religion and tradition, prompted the accusations in the 17th century in Sochaczew and Łęczyca and the spread of these stories in the anti-Judaic literature of the period. Attributes the success of this propaganda to the state of economic and political crisis in the country.
