Abstract: Analyzes documents concerning the activities of the Jewish Military Union (Żydowski Związek Wojskowy), founded by the Zionist-Revisionist Party, which fought in the Warsaw ghetto uprising. Finds traces of "erasing" the memory of the ŻZW members' participation in the uprising, already during the war, by their ideological opponents. Works written after the war by both Jews and Poles describe only left-wing participants as heroes of the uprising. Shows how these falsifications and manipulations came into being, particularly because it was in the interest of both Polish and Jewish communists. False testimonies were prepared by some Poles and Jews, including regarding alleged help from and participation of some Poles in the ghetto uprising. Such false testimonies were given to the Jewish Historical Institute Archives in Warsaw and served those who manipulated history for ideological reasons.
Note: On survivors' testimonies. With an English summary. , Appeared in English as "Apocrypha from the history of the Jewish Military Union and its authors" in "Holocaust; Studies and Materials" (2008) 147-176.
