Abstract:
Discusses the image of the Jews and the "Jewish question" as presented in the daily "Głos Narodu" and more than ten periodicals, among them "Kultura", "Ateneum Kapłańskie", and "Przegląd Powszechny". These periodicals were not addressed to the masses, but to the Catholic intelligentsia. They devoted much attention to the "Jewish question", viewing the presence of a considerable Jewish community in Poland as harmful. They argued that there are mental differences between Jews and other nations and that the Jews, also those who were very assimilated, fatally influenced the Poles' minds. The Jews were considered eternal enemies of the Poles. The periodicals kept anti-Jewish phobias alive among Poles. They also propagated the theory of a world Jewish conspiracy and maintained that Freemasonry and communism were invented by the Jews and served Jewish interests.
