Abstract: Discusses the drama "Wielkanoc" ("Easter") staged by Leon Schiller in October 1946 in the Theater of the Polish Army in Łódź. This play by Stefan Otwinowski, a young Polish author, deals with relations between Jews and Poles in a small town in Poland during World War II. There is a Jewish uprising in the ghetto and this event becomes a test for the Polish population in the town in regard to their reactions. Otwinowski suggests that the antisemitism of Poles has its source in Catholic tradition and that only the ideals of the Reformation could contribute to the development of religious tolerance. Presents discussions in the Polish press about the play. States that the play and discussions about it took place a few months after the pogrom in Kielce in July 1946, which caused the discussions about antisemitism to be urgent and actual in postwar Poland.
