Abstract:
Discusses antisemitism and acts of legal discrimination against Jews in Germany from 1933-1941. The Nazi measures were designed to gradually eliminate Jews from public life, while giving the impression of following "legal" procedure. Focuses on the Silesian provinces. In Upper Silesia, anti-Jewish laws were not introduced so long as the Silesian Convention, signed in Geneva in 1922 (which annexed this province to Poland), was binding - that is, until 15 July 1937. Describes the mass expulsion of Polish Jews from Germany in 1938, the events leading to the "Kristallnacht" pogrom, the pogrom in Breslau (Wrocław), and the deportations of Jews, especially from Breslau and its surroundings, from spring 1941.
