Abstract:
The subject of women in the Shoah should be approached with consideration for their specific experiences, e.g. with relation to their suffering due to the destruction of family bonds, separation from their children, and "denaturalization" of their bodies. From Italy, and from the Dodecanese islands of Greece, 3,800 Jewish women were deported to concentration camps; 543 of them survived. 96 Jewish women were murdered on Italian soil. Summarizes some of the 51 testimonies of Jewish women found in the Archivio della memoria, collected by the Centro di Documentazione Ebraica Contemporanea (Milano) between 1994-96.
