Abstract:
Describes the condition of the Jewish community of Urbino at the time of the racial persecution. States that even before 1938, the local fascist newspaper, "L'Ora", led an anti-Jewish campaign, including accusations of conspiracy and links to Bolshevism. Under the racial legislation, most Urbino Jews were expelled from their work places; they were later arrested and deported, and their property was confiscated. Pp. 53-61, "Appendice: Brenno Coen", by Federica Coen and Ermanno Torrico, discuss the personality of Coen, an Urbino Jew who joined the anti-fascist movement in 1924 and was persecuted throughout the years of the fascist regime, but succeeded to escape deportation and to fight in the resistance.
