Abstract:
Weil expressed a theological anti-Judaic position in her writings, calling for the purification of Christianity of Jewish influences ("Israele e i Gentili"). Her comparative study of religions, with an atemporal view, led her to rejection of Israel's history, religion, and culture. She adopted the accusation of deicide as "justified" by the Jewish tradition of power as against goodness, as well as the antisemitic argument that the Jews themselves, by their social function, necessarily bring about their own persecution. Outlines Weil's ignorance of Jewish sources, her selective use of quotations, and the weight of the psychological and philosophical elements in her thinking.
