Abstract:
States that antisemitism and racism are two different phenomena - the one originated in antiquity and the other in the 17th-18th centuries - but that they often go together. With the development of racist ideology, antisemitism acquired political characteristics while losing its religious connotation under secular/positivist influence. Argues that Europe is witnessing a new racism, but this is lacking solid ideology, and a decline of antisemitism under the influence of the memory of the Holocaust and the rejection of Christian Churches, but that there is a growing anti-Zionism. Discussing Mussolini's fascism, observes that its racism was rather spiritual than biological, and its antisemitism was, with few exceptions, a cynical import of foreign influences.
