Abstract:
Reprints and comments on the appeal addressed to Pope John Paul II by the Jewish community of Rome during the Gulf crisis, and the response included in the Vatican's declaration of 25 January 1991 explaining its attitude toward Judaism and the State of Israel. Attributes the Vatican's refusal to establish diplomatic relations with the State of Israel to political difficulties alone, and rejects the accusation in the appeal of anti-Judaic and theological prejudices.
