Abstract:
Analyzes the anti-Jewish writings of the Italian poet and journalist Gaeta. He felt "obstructed" in his career by "enemies" at the "Tribuna" newspaper and furiously wrote about a Jewish-Masonic conspiracy (1913-14). Neither a typical Catholic, nor an Italian nationalist, Gaeta was cautious in public statements, and waited for the appropriate political moment to publish his works. Nevertheless, his meetings with Giovanni Preziosi, and later Giovanni Gentile, led to nothing, and Gaeta committed suicide in 1927. It was only in 1939, in the context of the anti-Jewish legislation, that Gentile edited Gaeta's work under the title "Che cosa e la Massoneria"; it stated that Masonry was only a mask and an instrument of Judaism for global domination, and that Zionism was no more than a diversionary movement to cover the Jewish conspiracy. A second edition, "La Massoneria, " was published later by Preziosi.
