Kurzfassung: "Dossier K" (2006) is an autobiographical work written by Kertész in the style of an interview. States that the world of Kertész is one without providence; it is always the world of Auschwitz. He views his survival as having been accidental. Although the Holocaust was not an accident, it was a matter of chance to have been Jewish during the Nazi period. Kertész believes that man can only barely resist the temptation of evil. Actions of bad people can be analyzed and explained, but actions of good people cannot - their actions are considered to be miraculous. Kertész's Jewish identity developed only after the Holocaust; it made him a Jew in penitence for the shame of having survived. Kertész stresses the universality of the Holocaust. He also calls it the greatest trauma in European culture. He admits that, whatever else he is thinking of, Auschwitz is always on his mind. His book also discusses types and syndromes of neurosis in Holocaust survivors. Kertész's heroes all suffered from the same syndromes as did he himself.
