Abstract:
Criticizes four exhibitions mounted in Budapest in 2004 for the 60th anniversary of the Holocaust. The substantial inadequacies of the "Silenced Holocaust" exhibition might be attributed to its title. The new State Holocaust Museum has a temporary exhibit from the photo-album of Lili Jacob and films by Roman Visniac, with only indirect reference to the tragedy of Hungarian Jews. The exhibition of the Central Gallery deals with the topic of the silenced Holocaust, the official attitude of communist officials in Hungary until the 1980s. It includes a selection of articles and pamphlets published between 1945-47 both denying the Holocaust and blaming the Jews for it. The Holocaust section in the House of Terror is insignificant, but at least it shows Claude Lanzmann's film "Shoah".

On Holocaust museums, and in particular the new museum in Budapest.
