Abstract:
In late 1939, Dr. Albala, one of Belgrade's most prominent Jewish figures, was sent by the Yugoslav Regent, Duke Pavle, on a confidential mission to the U.S. His task was to obtain America's assistance in Yugoslavia's efforts to snap out of a growing isolation. His first mission of that kind, in 1917, was successful. But the present mission failed due to America's policy of isolation. He remained in the U.S., and became active in assisting Jewish refugees. He tried to get aid for the Jews in Europe, but was unsuccessful, and he died in 1942.
