Abstract: A lecture delivered at a study day on Righteous Gentiles at Beit Lohamei Haghetaot, December 1995. Discusses the implementation of legislation regarding "Mischlinge" (offspring of marriages between Aryans and Jews according to the Nuremberg Laws), "Mischehen" (mixed marriages), and converted Jews. While the converted Jews were condemned to the same fate as Jews, Jews married to Aryans were protected from most of the anti-Jewish legislation almost to the end of the war. Since many of the "Mischlinge" were members of leading German families, Hitler and his top government officials avoided taking conclusive decisions regarding their racial categorization and their inclusion in the "Final Solution". The majority of "Mischlinge" (ca. 1,000,000) survived the war. Many partners in "Mischehen" were also saved due to support given by their families as well as by Hitler's fear of public protests in Germany against their persecution. German Righteous Gentiles included non-Jewish partners from mixed marriages and Germans who helped "Mischlinge".
