Abstract:
Oesterreicher (1904-1993) was an Austrian Jewish convert to Catholicism, who emigrated to the United States in 1940. He rose to high office in the Church, and worked all his life long, in writings and sermons, and through his part in the preparation and propagation of "Nostra aetate", against racism and antisemitism. He appealed for the Church's recognition, as part of the faith of every Catholic, of the continuity between Judaism and Christianity. Describes, also, the opposition to the "Nostra aetate" declaration by Arabs as well as by European antisemites.
