Abstract:
Traces the persecution and murder of Jews labelled as "Judeo-communists", which accompanied Romania's war against the USSR in summer 1940. Argues that Antonescu's Romania conducted five types of wars against the Jews: a war of modernization, a war of conquest, ethnic cleansing and homogenization, reclamation of lost honor, and ideological warfare. These wars were fought in various fields of action (political, military, administrative, and relating to the population), each field being characterized by its own language of violence. Contends that the discrepancies between theories explaining the Romanian Holocaust are a reflection of these circumstances.
