Abstract:
Describes use of caricatures in the French press during the Dreyfus Affair as an expression of the political struggle between the Dreyfusard and anti-Dreyfusard camps. Asserts that before the Affair, antisemitic caricatures in the French press were discreet. Mentions a number of important caricaturists. Describes and analyzes the process of division of the press caricatures into the two camps. Deals with their growing violence and strength, and with the intersection of antisemitism and Germanophobia in the anti-Dreyfusard camp. The article is richly illustrated.
