Abstract:
Describes the meeting in Wannsee of 15 Nazi officials, led by Heydrich, where the decision was taken regarding the "Final Solution of the Jewish question". Traces the development of Nazi antisemitism from the 1920s on, and the gradual radicalization of anti-Jewish measures from 1938. Emphasizes the lack of significant reaction on the part of other countries (e.g. the failure of the Evian Conference), and discusses the plan to transfer the Jews to Madagascar. The Final Solution was already implemented in 1941, with the invasion of the USSR, before the Wannsee Conference, and intensified in 1942 with the operation of the extermination camps.
