Abstract:
On a quarrel regarding "supernaturalism" which arose in the spring of 1939 in France and in Belgium, led by the Belgian Catholic philosopher Marcel De Corte. This "trial on heresy" targeted in particular Jacques Maritain and his positions on the "mystery of Israel” and “impossible antisemitism”. On the eve of the war, this quarrel illustrates the persistence of a Catholic anti-Judaism nourished by exegetical and theological prejudices. But it also testifies to the doctrinal poverty of this anti-Judaism, which was henceforth driven away from its Pauline positions.
