Kurzfassung:
Discusses antisemitism in "Israël au Maroc" (1907), a polemical book by the French journalist Jean Hess (1862-1926). States that although Hess viewed the possible French colonization of Morocco as serving Jewish financial and political interests, and the book is full of caricatures of Moroccan Jews, Hess was not a classical antisemite. His antipathy was social, not racist. He defended Jews more often than he attacked them, and he advocated their emancipation. Concludes that Hess used antisemitism to fight colonization, which was his main target.
