Abstract:
Surveys the last days of Austrian Freemasonry, which was dissolved by the NSDAP and the Gestapo in 1938. Anti-Masonic propaganda by reactionary forces during the French Revolution created the myth of the Masonic conspiracy. With the growth of antisemitism, proponents of the conspiracy theory equated Freemasons with Jews, as shown in Karl Heise's "Entente - Freimaurerei und Weltkrieg" (1914) which links Freemasons, capitalism, and Bolshevism, and in the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion". This conspiracy theory enjoyed popularity during ideological, political, and economic crises and was also adopted by the Nazis. In 1938 the Nazis investigated the B'nai B'rith lodge in Vienna, which they considered to be the center of the world Jewish-Masonic conspiracy. The Gestapo arrested all Austrian Freemasons, but Jewish Masons were treated more harshly.

Including its connection with Jews.
