Abstract:
Divides Hebrew literary works on the Holocaust, written by survivors and by others, into two main categories: the historical, characterized by references to real chronological, geographical, and political concepts and events; and the "trans-historical, " recounting situations and experiences which are not anchored in specific chronological or geographical settings. The poetry relating to Holocaust experiences includes works written in a naturalistic and realistic style, referring to concrete situations, and works in a mythical vein which describe the horrors in demonic, surrealistic, and symbolic terms. Gives examples from works by Ka-Tzetnik, Naomi Frenkel, Aharon Appelfeld, David Grossman, Avraham Shlonsky, Natan Alterman, Sh. Shalom, and Uri Zvi Greenberg.
