Kurzfassung:
The Székelys, a subgroup of the Hungarian people, live in the valleys and hills of the eastern Carpathian Mountains, corresponding to the present-day Harghita, Covasna, and parts of Mureş counties in Romania. Discusses the fate of the Jews in the villages and towns (organized in alphabetical order) during the Holocaust. Deals more extensively with the case of the village of Bözödújfalu (pp. 106-109), now Bezidu Nou in Romania. In 1868, the bulk of the population decided to convert from Roman Catholiicsm to Judaism; the families remained Jewish, and they shared the fate of the other Jews during the Holocaust. Devotes extensive coverage also to the town of Székelyudvarhely (pp. 115-120), now Odorheiu Secuiesc, Romania.
