Abstract:
States that the absence of meaning and of identity after Auschwitz has generated an intense need on the part of contemporary French Jewish writers (particularly those who are children of survivors) to return to their sources. Their writings express fear and pain, and a deep sense of loss. Examines the works of Myriam Anissimov - seven novels published between 1973-89. Anissimov was born in 1943 in a Swiss refugee camp to which her parents, both of them communists, fled from France. her parents instilled in her a view of the Jew as a humiliated victim. The feeling of victimization permeates her novels, but the act of writing becomes for her a weapon, a defense, an instrument of survival.
