Kurzfassung:
Contends that the Gospel accounts of Jesus' trial are questionable, though that of John has some aspects that may be historically true. Focuses on the theological aims of the evangelists, writing under Paul's influence and in the aftermath of the Jewish revolt against Rome. These two factors explain why the New Testament accounts of Jesus' trial blame the Jews, and not the Romans, for Jesus' death. Concludes that the Gospel accounts of events prior to Jesus' death are antisemitic, while the views of Paul are anti-Judaic. The desire to dissociate themselves from the hated (by the Romans) Jews affected both Christian ideology and the image of the Jews who were blamed for deicide.
