Abstract:
Originally, the ideology of the Dutch Nationaal Socialistische Beweging in the interwar period did not include antisemitism. The party had, however, a racist nationalist wing, prone to antisemitic ideas. With growing pressure from the Nazi party in Germany in the 1930s, and following the NSB's failure in the election of 1937, the racist wing gained more support in the party; its leader, Mussert, and his "old guard" accepted Nazi-style antisemitism. This ideological shift in the late 1930s did much to destroy the party's credibility as an indigenous and not German-operated fascist movement, and led to the political isolation of the NSB in the Netherlands before the Nazi occupation.
Note:
Deals also with the antisemitic policy of the Dutch Nazi party.
