Abstract:
On Salmi Morse and his ill-fated stage production of “The Passion” in 1879. Morse had written a passion play which was considered by critics and authorities to be sacrilegious. He attempted to produce the play in San Francisco and in New York City, even recruited actors and held rehearsals, but was refused a permit to present it on stage. In 1884 he committed suicide.
