    Abstract: One of the first rabbis of the Jewish community of Leeuwarden was Hartog Leuwy (ca. 1735-1740). In 1741 he converted to Christianity and changed his name to .Petrus Werner Neuman. That same year he wrote a book about his conversion, in Hebrew, entitled "Or le'et erev”. He taught Hebrew at the University of Utrecht, and in 1750 also wrote a Hebrew grammar book.
