Abstract:
Without the Shoah, the shift in the Church's attitude towards the Jews would not have begun. The Shoah and the birth of the State of Israel confronted the Church with a series of new theological problems which influenced its relationship with the Jews. Until then, Christians saw in the Jewish dispersion the proof of their historical punishment. Analyzes Protestant and Catholic documents in order to clarify the revision of the Churches' views (including theological antisemitism) and its relationship toward the Shoah. The Vatican document "Noi ricordiamo: Una riflessione sulla Shoah, " minimizes anti-Judaism, defining it as the result of suspicion and hostility felt throughout the centuries by some Christians toward the Jews, neglecting to mention the religious and liturgical role of Church indoctrination.
