Abstract:
Emphasizes the political essence of anti-Zionism, which denies the Jews the right to self-determination and sovereignty under the pretext that the Jews do not constitute a people. Argues that if anti-Zionism is defined only in terms of antisemitism, its significance is depoliticized. However, the fact that Israeli politics are disproportionately and abusively criticized is an expression of antisemitism. Distinguishes between communist, Arab-Muslim, and third-world anti-Zionism, and focuses on the Arab-Muslim version. Presents a list of legal, economic, and political measures against Jews in the Muslim world since World War I. In Egypt, Iraq, Libya, and Algeria the Jews were isolated and expelled; in Tunisia, Morocco, Syria-Lebanon, Turkey, Yemen, and Iran they were excluded from society.
