Abstract:
Summarizes the background to the wave of antisemitism disguised as anti-Zionism which swept Poland in the late 1960s, and describes the actual campaign; it was set off by a speech by Gomulka, the head of the Polish Communist Party, in the wake of the Six-Day War (1967), in which he accused the Polish Jews of constituting a "fifth column". After the student revolt in spring 1968, the campaign intensified and Jews were purged from the party, the army, and the public sector. The majority of the Polish Jews then emigrated to the West or to Israel.
