Abstract:
Summarizes the "historians' debate", pointing out its contemporary political implications. While Hillgruber emphasizes the uniqueness of Nazism and the Holocaust, his works reflect his anachronistic Prussian patriotism and his identification with the defenders of German soil and Germany's traditional role in Central Europe. Nolte and Stürmer openly advocate revisionism as part of a political return to conservative national values. As a result, they are accused of relativizing Nazi atrocities.
